SAGA is a visual assistance system for pilots, used during the approach, landing and take-off phases at heliports. Consisting of two units – Master and Slave – mounted on the approach axis, the system provides precise light signals indicating the correct position and angle of approach to the landing pad.
Operating Voltage DC48V (Others available)
Power Consumption ≤250W
Flash Delay From 60 to 300 ms
Axis Accuracy +/- 0.45 degrees azimuth
Light Intensity 2500cd
Light Source LED
LED Lifespan 100,000 h
Light Color White
● When the aircraft is flying within a 9° wide angular sector centered on the approach axis, the pilot sees the two lights “flashing” simultaneously. ● When the aircraft is flying within a 30° wide angular sector centered on the approach axis and outside the previous one, the pilot sees the two lights “flashing” with a variable delay (60 to 330 ms) depending on the aircraft’s position in the sector. The further the aircraft is from the axis, the greater the delay. The delay between the two “flashes” produces a sequence effect that shows the direction of the axis. ● The visual signal is not visible when the aircraft is flying outside the 30° angular sector.
The SAGA system includes two light units (one Master and one Slave) placed symmetrically on either side of the runway threshold (or TLOF), which provide unidirectional rotating beams that give a flashing effect. The pilot receives two “Flashes” of illumination every second provided in sequence by the two light units.
